Walking through Sierra de Grazalema to Ronda

Walking through Sierra de Grazalema to Ronda

A lovely self-guided walk in the still unspoiled mountains to the west of Ronda, culminating in two nights in the Moorish cliff-top bastion, and suitable for independent-minded hikers.

Your stays in the fabled white villages, perched on the slopes for defence, are interspersed with glorious hillside walking through the dramatic limestone scenery of the Grazalema National Park. Ibex, eagles and griffon vultures are there for the spotting. Starting In Zahara, with its Moorish castle, your first day’s walk is a taster and a loosener around the village, while your second takes you across the flanks of Monte Prieto to Grazalema, the most famous white village at the centre of the park. An excursion the next day to Benaocaz – over the top of the Sierra del Endrinal, with thrilling views towards Ubrique. Your final two days take you over wild mountainsides to Montejaque, then along lush river valleys to Ronda, scene of some of the last battles of the Reconquista. Your final day is free for you to explore the fascinating town.

You will stay throughout in small hotels and pensions, hand-picked by On Foot Holidays for friendliness and comfort – and get to know your hosts well. Your final two nights is spent in the famed Hotel San Gabriel in Ronda – an unforgettable experience.
